Got this for my 19th Birthday. Was my first tattoo and I was super nervous because it is on my ribs. Tyson from Iron Brush in Lincoln, NE was the one who inked me. I’ve always loved Totoro and growing up and seeing the animations that Hayao Miyazaki created was something that really made me want to go after an Art related career. I’m going to be an art teacher k-12 so hence the paintbrush. I still have yet to get it colored, I really can’t wait.
LOVE LOVE LOVE

Hey my name’s Jordan. I just got my feet done! These are my second & third tattoo! Love love love my anchor & my sailor girl! It fits my style so well! Classic Sailor Jerry americana with a girly edge! For me there’s def meaning in these tats! Firstly, I’m an island girl, so I’ve always been totally captivated by the ocean! Growing up in Charleston, South Carolina it’s no surprise! With The Citadel & numerous military bases around here, that military lifestyle is everywhere & this city is rich in history! I’ve dated military. I even considered enlisting awhile back. Secondly, I’ve always been strangely drawn to naval symbols, sayings, etc… Come to find out, my Papa was a sailor & my Great Grandfather was a naval commander. Both served in WWII! So it’s in the blood I guess! Thirdly, every time I look at my feet, all I can think is, “Sink or swim!” These tats inspire me to do my best, work hard, be myself, & set & sail my own course through life! Fourthly & finally, what with my fairy tale obsession, these sailor pieces also feed into my Peter Pan love! Considering eventually working in some Pan stuff on my bod as too! We’ll see! These tats were done by Tim Dennis at Blu Gorilla Tattoo! Super rad, great artist, will take your pics & ideas & collaborate with you as much as you need! Heads up though, I’ve a high pain tolerance & these tats flipping hurt! Everyone reacts differently, but I’m told the only thing worse is your ribs! Then again, next up for me is a chest piece & I’m sure my sternum & collarbone will be pretty painful! Luckily, I’m an adrenaline junkie & love it! :)

Owl (and unseen hourglass) by Rick Lohm. Owls are very popular tattoos, but that doesn’t matter. A tattoo doesn’t have to be completely unique for it to mean something to you.
I am loving this tattoo, I have been thinking about getting an owl on my foot actually!

Mark Twain’s house was burgled in 1908. This was the letter that was subsequently posted to the front door.
Thanks, Letters of Note.

I thought y’all might find this interesting. I spent a majority of the day moving the archives for the museum I intern at and I found this hidden. It’s a D-Day pigeon carrier (with matching vest inside). Both the British and the US used pigeons for various things—MI5 hatched a plan to use pigeons to spread false rumors about D-Day while the US used them to actually aim bombs by training them—and this was a D-Day carrier from a US bomber.
Pretty nifty if you ask me.

Albert Einstein was very slow to speak and his parents feared he wasn’t too bright. One day, when he was sick in bed, they gave him a compass to him occupied. The new plaything made him wonder about magnetic fields, which got him interested in physics, and, well, you know the rest.
